Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko has recently come up with an unusual idea to defeat corruption in gas industry. The country’s Government suggests raising gas tariffs for the population so that they match those for industrial consumers.
From this moment on, Ukrainian citizens will have to pay up to 76% more than they did during Yanukovych’s Government, while the EU initially insisted on raising the tariffs up to 40%.
The government has already adopted a series of laws to make Ukrainians’ lives even tougher. For instance, it has been decided to raise the inferior limit for granting subsidies as well as to deprive certain categories of people of welfare benefits (those categories include persons born in time of war, veterans’ widows, people with disabilities and multi-child families). It is now absolutely impossible to receive a tariff price reduction without having to cut of red tape.
